  • Harvard Business School New Venture Competition Startup Showcase

Lambent Data™ had the exciting opportunity to present as a semi-finalist in the Harvard Business School New Venture Competition (HBSNVC) New York City/Northeast Regionals. The semi-finals occurred in the form of a Showcase, which took place on the evening of February 13, 2020 in New York City. The HBSNVC is an annual, global startup competition that serves as a launch pad for innovative companies founded by HBS alumni from around the world; HBS students compete in separate tracks than the alumni. It provides cash prizes, in-kind services and exposure to potential investors, mentors, and advisors. The New York City/Northeast Region is the largest of the ten HBSNVC global regions. Previous winners of the NYC/NE competition have grown their businesses to become some of the most notable startups in this region, including last year's NYC/NE Regional winner Blueland, which also won the 2019 global HBSNVC. Leaders of 24 companies participated on Feb. 13 with hopes to advance, and to talk about their ventures with the over 170 people registered to attend the Showcase. Co-founder and CEO Kirsten Hund Blair (Princeton '84, HBS MBA ’89, and Harvard Kennedy School MPA '89) was excited for Lambent Data to participate as a semi-finalist, though Lambent did not advance to the Regional Finals. However, she was very grateful for the opportunity to highlight and explain Lambent Data's work to potential investors and advisors, including those who have become more involved with Lambent since the event. In addition to discussing Lambent's OurVisit™ collaborative software platform and app to empower healthcare and social service providers and the families they serve, she explained about the New Jersey 20% Angel Investor Tax Credit Program. This striking program is open to investors (even if they themselves do not live in NJ) who invest in NJ-based tech/science companies, including Lambent Data. They receive 20% of their investment back, regardless of whether they have any other reason to file a NJ tax return. • Undergrads Participate in an Exciting Time of Growth at Lambent

During a week in January of 2020, Lambent Data™ hosted five undergraduate students from Princeton and Rutgers to participate in an internship program during a significant time of development for Lambent Data. The four Princeton interns assisted through the Princeternship program, sponsored by the Princeton University Center for Career Development. Karla Soto Cuevas (Princeton ‘23), Sydney Dubin (Rutgers ‘21), Addele Hargenrader (Princeton '23), Yazan Mimi (Princeton ‘22), and Rachel Sylwester (Princeton ‘22) learned to navigate the fast-paced bustle of entrepreneurship in the dynamic workspace of Tigerlabs, where Lambent Data is located. The interns utilized their different skills to create an enthusiastic and dedicated team that together contributed to developing and further designing the pilot prototype and related documentation for OurVisit™, a collaborative software platform and app to equip and empower healthcare and social service providers and the families they serve. They also helped create posters and other materials for interactions with potential investors. They worked daily with CEO and Co-founder Kirsten Hund Blair (Princeton ‘84) and CTO Vin Shelton (Princeton ‘80), who are very excited for the next steps. Interns concluded the program by engaging in a Career Panel where they learned more about the team’s history, shared and asked questions relevant to their own pathways, and received inspiring advice on their career journeys. Panelists included Co-founder and Board Member Tom Amato (Princeton ‘67), Board Member Bob Lem (Princeton ‘67), and COO Kevin McClarren (Southeast Missouri State Univ. ‘89), as well as Hund Blair and Shelton.

Lambent Data™ Co-founder and CEO Kirsten Hund Blair was delighted to participate as a panelist and in other ways in the outstanding 4th annual Early Childhood Innovation Summit, organized by the HeadStarter Network, with the National Head Start Association (NHSA). The Summit occurred July 22-24, 2019 in Indianapolis with the goal of facilitating and spreading ideas, processes, and technologies that can greatly benefit early childhood development.  Kirsten enjoyed interacting with many educators, other practitioners, funders, researchers and entrepreneurs. Big shoutouts to the HeadStarter team for organizing and facilitating the sessions to include enlightening presentations and lively discussions -- and to Ashley Beckner, Venture Partner at the Omidyar Network, for skillfully emceeing the Summit, including with thought-provoking questions. During Day 1 on July 22, Kirsten served as a panelist on the kick-off panel "Reimagining How We Deliver the Promise of Early Childhood Education."  Other panelists were Michelle Cissell & Angie Kinser of the Children's Learning Center of Goodwill of Central & Southern Indiana. Lisa Stewart, Chief Strategy Officer of the HeadStarter Network, nimbly moderated the panel and the Q and A.  They had a wonderful and informative session about new innovations to help advance learning environments for children and to engage families. During this panel, Kirsten was happy to explain the OurVisit™ collaborative software platform and app with data analytics, including how it’s being built to engage and empower practitioners and the families they serve, starting with the home visiting arena (including Early Head Start and other models).  During the Q and A and later conversations during the Summit, she received much enthusiastic feedback about it, including helpful questions and ideas. On Day 2, Kirsten displayed the OurVisit™ prototype and shared related materials at the Innovator Studio, attended by participants both of the Summit and the concurrent Head Start Manager and Director Academy conference. If you were a participant in the Summit and/or this concurrent conference, please click on this survey to provide feedback -- thanks so much! Other interactive sessions on Day 1 and 2 ranged across educational models, technologies, architecture, hands-on-learning, and more. Energetic conversations continued during Day 3.  Stimulating discussion topics included artificial intelligence (AI) and ethics regarding AI’s potential involvement in the lives of children and families -- including in education.  In another session, other social entrepreneurs shared about their work, including re. child development assessments and other tools; language learning; responsive reading; infant/toddler hearing diagnostics; and professional development for early childhood educators. They also received positive feedback from Summit participants. Since returning from Indy, Kirsten has continued lively engagement with other Summit participants through phone calls, emails, and planned meetings. Thanks so much again to the HeadStarter Network planning team, including Yasmina Vinci (Executive Director of the NHSA), Lisa Stewart noted above, Tim Oppenheim, and Taylor Bohn!  And many thanks again to emcee Ashley Beckner and to all the other Summit participants! It was an extremely fruitful conference and we at Lambent Data™ look forward to continuing interactions! @HeadStarterNet #ECIS19 #InnovateEarly #EarlyEd

  • Lambent Data Selected to Pitch at NJ Tech Council's Venture Conference 2019

Lambent Data™ has been chosen to pitch at the NJ Tech Council's Venture Conference 2019 on April 11 in Newark, expected to attract over 1,000 registrants.  Lambent, co-founded by Joe Studholme (Princeton '84) and Kirsten Hund Blair (Princeton '84, Harvard Business School '89, Harvard Kennedy School '89), works to improve child and family well-being through user-friendly software and data analytics. Its first product, OurVisit™, in the prototype design phase, is a collaborative software platform/app for social services agencies and the families they serve.  CEO Blair notes, "We began building this innovative tool for the arena of "home visiting" for families with babies through pre-schoolers. However, the product will also be valuable in other arenas, for practitioners and families with children with special needs, foster children, addiction challenges, and other needs. We're seeking advice and funding, via investors, accelerators, and foundations." Lambent Data, located at Tigerlabs at 252 Nassau St. in Princeton, also is engaging other Princeton alumni, including CTO Ted Nadeau '87, Chief Data Scientist Philip Baldwin '82 (Univ. of Illinois Ph.D. '87), and seven Princeton undergraduates.  See https://www.lambentdata.com/post/princeterns-join-lambent-for-a-week-of-learning-and-building for a list of the undergrads (most of whom were Princeterns) and info about their contributions.
