Inspiring Concerts Support Recovery Work

Acclaimed musician and songwriter George Kilby, Jr. along with other musicians in the Music Heals Trio played two wonderful benefit concerts on May 31 and June 1, 2025, highlighting programs for recovery from substance use disorder. The concerts supported the powerful recovery work of the Opioid Crisis Action Network Recovery Fund (OCAN-RF), founded by Larry and Heather Arata, in honor and memory of their son Brendan. Donations (even from those not at the concerts) were matched by a generous donor. As noted on its website,  OCAN-RF “pays for the treatment and housing in best practices recovery homes for those suffering from substance use disorder. OCAN-RF provides grants to best practices treatment centers and recovery homes on behalf of those in financial need suffering from substance use disorder. OCAN-RF does not accept or pay referral fees to any treatment center or recovery home.”

Many thanks to Rachel Reale-Adams, General Manager, Way of Life Recovery Homes, for hosting and providing delicious food for the May 31 concert at the Way of Life Recovery Homes in Lansdowne, PA.  Many participants in the recovery community, along with family members, attended the outstanding, meaningful show, along with Lambent's Co-founder and CEO Kirsten Hund Blair and other supporters of OCAN-RF.

The second benefit concert occurred June 1 at the Llannerch Presbyterian Church in Havertown, PA, and attracted people from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, and elsewhere. Local attendees included residents of Step by Step Recovery Homes, A Different Way, Way of Life, and Delco House, along with team members of American Treatment Network.

The concerts featured powerful lyrics and music, which was rollicking at times and also poignant!  The songs combined elements of blues, rock, country, jazz and folk.  Mr. Arata and Mr. Kilby gave inspiring messages about healing, in addition to the awesome music.  They are pictured below, along with Ms. Hund Blair and Dr. Laurance “Larry” Buxbaum.

Over his decades of making music, Mr. Kilby has dedicated his music to build a better future, including now through the “Music Heals” concerts. For many years, he partnered with the late Phil Wiggins, a National Heritage Award winner and blues harmonica virtuoso, in presenting “Racism, Reconciliation, and the Blues” at schools, civic centers, and festivals in the U.S. and Europe. His website noted below includes excerpts from some of the many wonderful songs over his extensive career, including with Mr. Wiggins and others.

Lambent Data has developed the OurREACH™ HIPAA-compliant, collaborative software platform and app, with data analytics and AI. OurREACH™ supports best practices in recovery and reentry.  It equips social service and healthcare providers -- and empowers people in challenging transitions -- to improve outcomes in health and social drivers of health. It increases participant engagement and staff efficiency, while overall lowering healthcare costs through better outcomes.  Participants can use over 200 customizable milestone/goal templates for health, employment, financial literacy, IDs, housing, parenting, and other arenas – and also build their own. They also can easily access multitudes of linked resources (local and broader) and communication features. It enhances case management and mentoring, while coordinating with the programs and other technology the organization may have.

In organizations currently using OurREACH™, the participants have given very high marks, recommend it to others, and also want to continue to use it themselves. Current staff using the app are also glad for the progress tracking, communication tools, surveys, integration with other technology, and ways that OurREACH™ can be easily customized to support and extend their own programs.
